What is the meaning of Avia?
AVIA actually is a nameplay and derived from my name Aira, my mom’s name Vivian & my sister’s name Via, we are all jewelry lovers.
AVIA in many cultures means life, way & vision; in Hebrew it means “God is my Father”, these profound meanings reflect our brand’s purpose that is centered on deep connection and respect for the natural world. I believe that embracing a perspective or the idea that everything in the natural world is a gift from its Creator, inspires and encourages a mindful approach and conscious choices to its resources; and in our case, here at AVIA—the gemstones of the earth.

What is a Gold Vermeil?
Gold vermeil is a high quality kind of gold-plated jewelry. It is set by coating a base metal, pure or sterling silver, with a layer of gold. To qualify as vermeil, the gold layer must be at least 10 karat and have a gold thickness of at least 2.5 microns. These aspects give the appearance of solid gold while keeping the cost lower.
Since a vermeil jewelry is composed of these two precious metals (gold and silver), it’s usually thought of as being closer to fine jewelry and falls under the category “demi-fine.”
Put another way, gold vermeil pieces are made with precious silver metals with heavy gold plating to ensure long-lasting wear.
What is the difference with Gold Plated and Solid Gold?
Gold vermeil has different composition and quality. Gold vermeil is made with a base of sterling silver (92.5% silver), while gold-plated jewelry can be made with various base metals, including brass, copper, or alloy. Gold vermeil has a thicker layer of gold, while gold-plated jewelry often has a much thinner gold layer, which can be as thin as 0.5 microns. Gold vermeil uses gold that is at least 10 karat (41.7% gold content), while gold-plated jewelry can use gold of varying karat levels.
Solid gold on the other hand is of course made of a high percentagee gold - inside and out. The various karats of gold (10K, 14K, 18K) is the percentage of 24K gold in the jewelry piece. It is the most durable but also the most expensive.
In summary, gold vermeil generally offers higher quality and durability than gold-plated jewelry and yet an affordable jewelry option compared to solid gold.
What is Moissanite? Why is it popular that people are buying it?
Moissanite is a gemstone on its own that is composed of silicon carbide. It is renowned for its brilliance and fire which surpasses even that of diamond. Moissanite was first discovered in a meteorite by French chemist Henri Moissan in 1893 and actually mistook it for a diamond because of its similar appearance. In today’s jewelry scene, it is a popular alternative to diamonds that is durable and cost-effective. With a similar hardness, scoring 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second to diamond with a score of 10 making it suitable for various types of jewelry.
Now modern technology can replicate the conditions from which gemstones grow, most moissanites now are grown in controlled lab environments with no unethical mining involved making it a sustainable and economical option.
